Dropped kerbs
We put in dropped kerbs, lowering the kerb so you can drive off the road, over the pavement and onto your own drive.
Because it’s work on the public pavement, the council has a say before anything is built. Who you deal with depends on where you live.
- Inside the city: Derby City Council
- You apply to the council, with a £175 non-refundable application fee. A private contractor can build it, or the council can, which it says takes about 14 weeks. Crossings on A, B and C roads need planning permission too.
- Outside the city: Derbyshire County Council
- You apply online and choose a contractor from the council’s list of registered contractors. The council inspects the finished work.
From the councils’ own pages, checked October 2026. Rules change, so check the current details with your council.
Tarmac driveways
Our drives are dug out, edged with block or brick kerbs, then laid and rolled. Here’s how one goes in, from our own photos.
-
Dig out
The old ground is dug out to make room for the drive.
-
Edges and drainage
Block or brick kerbs go in along the edges, with a channel drain on some drives.
-
Lay and roll
The tarmac is raked out level, then rolled.
-
Finished
Edged in block, with a channel drain across the front.
Other work
- Resin
- Fencing
- Slabbing (patios)
