Tarmac driveways in Derby
We dig out, edge and lay tarmac driveways across Derby and the surrounding area. Every photo on this page is from our own jobs.
How a tarmac drive goes in
Every drive is different, but the job runs in the same order: dig out, edge, lay, roll.
-
Digging out
The old ground is dug out to make room for the new drive.
-
Edging and drainage
Block or brick kerbs go in along the edges. On some drives, a channel drain goes in as well.
-
Laying
The tarmac is raked out to an even level.
-
Rolling
Then the roller goes over it.
Tarmac going down, on video
Tarmac comes in by grab and goes down on the stone base. Then it’s raked out level and rolled.
Finished drives
A neat block or brick edge, and on some drives a channel drain across the front where the drive meets the pavement.
You’ll probably need a dropped kerb too
A new driveway usually needs a dropped kerb, so you can drive on from the road. That needs the council’s permission before it’s built, and the process is different inside Derby and out in the county.
